Jesse Kelly town hall a great success

Written by Ryan on Aug 14th, 2009.

Rep. Giffords canceled her town hall in Sahuarita/Green Valley, AZ and Jesse Kelly, her Republican challenger, scheduled an appearance in the same venue at the same time and place. From the looks of the video below it was very successful. Both sides were allowed to speak for two hours and with no problems. You would think that a 2 term congresswoman could manage to put on a town hall during the one month August recess.

You know what was amazing about that?

He was actually answering their questions! Unlike the canned answers heard at virtually every other town hall.
    Typical exchange:

    Constituent:
“I like my insurance and am afraid I’ll lose it”

    Congessperson (D):
“You will not lose your insurance. Next question.”

Whew. The constituent is soooo relieved. NOT! This typifies the canned, lame responses at most of these venues. Because they can’t. The objectionable thing about the bill is its vagueness: it creates agencies to carry out large objectives, but leaves it for that agency to later “fill in the blanks”. We are NOT being told what the details are.

This was GREAT! I hope this young man will run for her seat in 2010. If so, give him my email and I will send him a donation!

  3. Jed Skillman says:

Jesse Kelly was spot-on. He was prepared and ready for action. I especially liked the fact that he had direct quotes from the plan ready in his handouts.

If he keeps this up he’ll be the new US Representative from Arizona’s 6th.

  4. John Stone, Asheville NC says:

This young man exudes the Marine tradition of my father, and reminds me so much of him! Speaks from the heart, not talking points published by his party or some shadow so-called interest group funded by George Soros.
“Single Payer” is a synonym for monopoly, and Kelly gets that.

OBAMA’S election was not a good day for AMERICA.
Those who love freedom must fight back.

CITIZENS: Buy only necessary items – cut off revenue to the government. Cancel ALL media – cut off revenue to the MSM.

SMALL BUSINESS: Hire NO ONE until 2010 election is over. You create most of the jobs in the US. Only after OBAMA and LIBERAL REGRESSIVES are out of power will you be appreciated AND your efforts rewarded.

BEGIN THE 2010 ELECTIONS NOW: CITIZENS hold your OWN town meetings. Invite the opposition to your current “elected” NON-REPRESENTATIVE. Invite ones who share YOUR majority views.

    Meet at YOUR schools.

Invite local police to insure the meeting is not punked by the left.

    MEET, BLOG, TWIT, FAX, REBEL!

This is awesome. I thought the Reps were on a suicide march. Looks like the dems are now.

Keep it up Jessie! Kyl needs some help.

It will be a pleasure to cast my vote for Mr. Kelly.

Now if someone could find a Jesse clone for the AZ 5th then we would really be in business!

The democrat weasel that we have (Mitchell) is hiding. Too bad, really, I would love to take a shot at his fuzzy thinking.

  10. TCH says:

This is what the discussion could and should look like if citizens all agreed to listen to each other speak in a civil manner. Shouting down people who wish to speak at these meetings, which has been overwhelmingly at Democratic town halls, silences other citizens who have a right to be heard. Defeating health care reform hurts us all.

  12. URBAN LEGEND – Congress Exempt From Health Care Reform?

Start at pg 113, line 22 of SENATE version of the Health Care Reform Bill (http://help.senate.gov/BAI09A84_xml.pdf). This starts to describe who is and is-not covered by health care reform. The key-term is “qualified individual”.

If you are NOT eligible for Federal employee health benefits, as described in US Code Title 5 Chapter 89, then Health Care Reform WILL apply to you.

If you ARE eligible for Federal employee health benefits, as described in US Code Title 5 Chapter 89, then Health Care Reform will NOT apply to you.

Who is eligible for Federal employee health benefits, as described in US Code Title 5 Chapter 89?

Time to read US Code Title 5 Chapter 89 … http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/5/usc_sup_01_5_10_III_20_G_30_89.html

For purposes of US Code Title 5 Chapter 89, members of Congress, political appointees, federal employees (obviously), and many others are eligible for Federal employee health benefits.

CONCLUSION: The Senate is attempting to exempt itself from Health Care Reform. Congress, Federal Employees, and other ‘chosen’ ones will get a different plan from the one that will be inflicted upon the rest of us.

SIDE-NOTE: When critiquing health care reform, please quote chapter & verse from the bill (House or Senate version, page #, line #). Otherwise, some absolutely ridiculous claims will be put into circulation, leading to ridicule and undermining the credibility of those honestly fighting against this awful attempt to destroy one of America’s most effective sectors. When reading a critique, reference the actual bill to verify for yourself that it is an honest critique rather than a bogus critique.

I’m NOT looking forward to 2010.

  14. Jack Okie says:

    TCH:

You’re overlooking the anger over TARP, the “stimulus” bill that is mostly pork and is only 10% spent, the sweetheart provisions for the UAW in the government takeover of GM and Chrysler, etc. At this point most people (see the polls) want the Porkulous money returned to the taxpayers and no government takeover of health care. If the congress-critter holding the town hall meeting voted for the above measures, they should expect to get an ear-full.

  15. stephen says:

Ann Kirkpatrick of Arizona is doing a “tele-townhall” meeting on health care in Flagstaff.

  16. TCH says:

    Jack:

You make excellent points regarding the reason behind the anger. For me, however, anger is a reaction to a situation. Sustaining anger as a strategy to respond to that situation is the choice of a person who believes that shouting angrily will improve a difficult situation. Anger and fear can save lives in situations of imminent physical harm, but not in restructuring a broken health care system. I believe we need to fill the ears of congress with how we want the health care system to serve all of us. What is missing is from the angry shouting is how to fix healthcare.

  17. Artgal says:

TCH: The situation as such warrants anger! It’s not a strategy at all – it’s genuine and comes from the heart of real people who are aware and very well-informed, fed up and also concerned as they should be. All of us should be!

You stated ‘anger and fear can save lives in situations of imminent physical harm’ – that’s exactly what we are doing! We are sounding out the alarm to the American people to read this thing, become informed and question those who are ready to hand over our healthcare system to the federal government’s control.

We have been distributing information on a number of options that do not include the government controlling it. TORT reform would bring much needed savings to the healthcare industry and to your pocket. So would options such as a healthcare savings account (HSA); individuals purchasing lower premium insurance covering major medical only instead of regular doc visits (another way to actually bring down costs, encourage competition and cut out waste of services – all those extras people will get that are not necessary simply because they believe a $20, $25, $30 copay covers everything in the doc office when it does not); offering tax breaks to medical practitioners who provide services for those w/o insurance; purchasing health plans beyond state borders; and the list continues! None of it involves a Health Czar nor a health board of advisors comprised of bioethicists who support severe rationing of care (read their writings and you will know exactly who is influencing this administration!).

We don’t need congress to intervene except to pass laws on TORT reform. I would not be opposed to getting government out of Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP and so much of the drudgery it has created in the microcosm of socialized medicine: the HMO and PPO through the 1973 HMO Act. Imagine how much better those entities would function if left in a truly free market!

I would encourage you to attend more townhalls and especially the upcoming townhall with Jesse Kelly and Gabrielle Giffords at Pima Community College on August 18. Those of us ‘angry mobs’ have also held townhalls featuring doctors and The Goldwater Institute on healthcare information and alternatives to Obama’s Final Solution. We are out there providing information and altenatives. Perhaps asking the media to cover those events would be helpful as well. We’ve invited them!

  18. TCH says:

    Artgal,

Excellent points as well, independent with my agreement or disagreement with them.

The only piece that I can’t immediately understand is “Obama’s Final Solution.”

Finally, I’d much prefer to hear someone make salient points as you have rather than just shout angrily.

  19. Kyda Sylvester says:

I think all Republican challengers contemplating runs in ‘10 should take a page from Jesse’s book and set up public fora for the discussion of the Democrats’ health care and energy policies. If they come as prepared as Jesse, they will own these subjects and will lay the groundwork for a successful challenge. Go, Jesse, go!

  20. George says:

People have respect for people who show them respect. That Mr. Kelly took the time to listen to people, even people whose views were different from his, would tend to elicit a certain degree of respect. He should be commended. People who have contempt for politicians that show the people contempt and who ignore the words of the people. When attempting to use debate and persuasion, there is always a chance of at least some success when the other party hears you out. When the other party shuts you our or runs away, there is no chance for any constructive input.

Rep. Giffords’ behavior was disrespectful of her constituents. My guess is that many “Members” are going to be in for quite a surprise a year from now.

Hey WJR, if you’re in CD5, check out Eric Wnuck (R), he’s NOT a politician but a successful business guy. No nonsense and one of the few who wants to SERVE, for all the right reasons.

  23. Steve J. says:

Artgal wrote “Imagine how much better those entities would function if left in a truly free market!”

In 1963, the economist Kenneth Arrow proved that the free market will only lead to inefficiencies in health care.

  24. kralmajales says:

This was a wonderful wonderful video. This guy is a total extremist…promoting total lies. Govt access to bank accounts, promoting the fear of death panels…

And tort reform is based on total fiction. Read McCann and Haltom’s Distorting the Law.

  25. kralmajales says:

Please please dump your time and resources into his race, as he has absolutely no chance of winning.

  26. Jonathan says:

Yeah. Kralmajales…..He is lying when he is actually passing out the pages from the bill that he is talking about. Yeah. Kralmajales….he is lying about death panel even though the Senate is stripping that provision from the current bill. What a liar. Oh wait…It is kralmajales that is telling the tall tails. Read the bill like Jesse Kelly did and turn of MSNBC for a bit.

And no chance to win…..Hmmmmm. AZ-8 is only a +4 Republican district. Say goodbye to the liberal Giffords as she goes back home to Houston.

  28. Dear Honored Sir:

You may question as to how I was able to ascertain your e-mail address and name, it is been given me by a trusted family advisor HONORABLE Rahm Emanuel, ESQUIRE, Barrister and Counsel.

I am HIS EXCELLENCY Barack Hussein OBAMA, Junior, son of the late esteemed bureaucrat and Marxist Philosopher Barack Hussein OBAMA, Senior of Kenya.

As I was elected PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES of AmeriKKKa in 2008, and was unfairly deposed on a technicality relating to my birth certificate and other minor issues in 2009.

Whilst I was in the Executive palace, I was able to squirrel away several BILLIONS of USD, with the assistance of HONORABLE Timothy Giethner and my proud Princess and First Lady.

What I propose is for you to forward, post haste, your banking and exchequer information to Mr. Barrister EMANUEL, in which we may deposit the profits from my short-lived REIGN, in exchange for, we will forward to you 1/20th of the FORTUNE, to the tune of $100 MILLION USD.

Time is of the essence, as the newly installed PALIN administration is hot on our heels and we are also making ourselves scarce from Mr. Soros and his henchmen.

  29. kralmajales says:

    Barry,

    WTF??????

  30. kralmajales says:

    Johnathan,

He was totally distorting the bill…not reading the passages. His bizzaro interpretation…said flippantly like good ole Rush himself.

If Tim Bee lost by 12%, what on earth makes you think that this guy, with no name rec, no money, and half the intellect of Bee, could win this race?

He might get 900 or so votes from the Tea Party…oh yeah…a group of extremists who support having guns at a Presidential event!

I sent out this video on Marine Jesse Kelly to many along with the article written about him.

I received a question back from one of my 475 email readers, and she is asking if anyone knows the page number on the gov’t being able to have access to our bank accounts. Before I post this question to a rather smart group, I ran a Ctrl + F on the PDF Health Care 3200 Bill from the PDF that I have. I put in words that I thought may pull up the line and note the page number, however I did not get it, as it is written for lawyers. If any one knows it (page number), please post it for us, it makes it even more credible to note the page number and I can photo snap it for all, as most of us could not be there live to hear Jesse Kelly’s wonderful demonstration of Patriotic Courage or to receive a copy he passed out.

  32. Tucsonguy says:

The problem is with his background (hasn’t accomplished much, has no college education) he won’t be able to beat Giffords in the election. I would much prefer Brian Miller who is running in this same district and has much better credentials, 10 years as an AF fighter pilot, degree in political science, etc. Republicans need to come away from the primaries with a candidate who can win in the general election. http://www.brianmillerforcongress.com

  33. I just read through this particular article and needed to thank you personally. Clear and concise!
