Written by Earlier today we covered the story of Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick canceling her town hall. We have since found video of the event and the truth of what happened does not quite match the story that Rep. Kirkpatrick gave to Politico. Kirkpatrick was certainly facing questions but the group is well behaved. When she gets up to leave the people stand aside and let her go.
Clearly Kirkatrick chose a very crowded venue and only has herself to blame for the confined space. At the end of the video we see another Democrat hopping in an SUV, which for some reason has California plates. What’s up with that?
Rep. Kirkpatrick did not advertize this as a Town Hall meeting – the republican Party did. Of course she had to leave the people swarming then entry were blocking it – think fire hazard.
Oh pish posh. The natives are participating in democray and the congresswoman couldn’t stand the heart.
Obama and crew are pissed because the communities are organizing.
I wonder what these pols are thinking. What is her next move? How does one get persuaded that these white headed seniors are an organzed mob to be dissed? Their behavior seems suicidal to me.
Fire hazard! What a sad excuse. You can be sure that if the crowds were there to cheer for her, she wouldn’t have sulked out of the place. Her thin-skinned contempt for her constituents will pay dividends for her opponent in 2010. Hope you are enjoying your one term in Congress, Ms. Kirkpatrick!

Her job is to represent the people of her area. She obviously is not doing her job. Why would she go out in front of people if she was not prepared to answer some questions. I hope she is voted out when the time comes.

The crowd was a majority of senior citizens and veterans. They were polite and very courteous. Just seeking answers from Kirkpatrick and she walks out on them. Ann, what do you think of your chances for re-election are now? One term Congress-woman!
And this is what we have representing us? I have picketed her office here in Prescott with several hundred others, and am headed out to do the same today. I plan to picket, email and phone her office over and over and over again!

This smells of failure to meet obligations. Arizonans, in the past have dealt with this by recall/impeachment. What makes this woman any different? I don’t think you need to think “Fire Escape”. Ok – here’s what I don’t get.
1. There was a national call out for people to go and disrupt Congressional meetings.
2. People went and disrupted the meetings. Why would a Congresswoman (or anyone else, for that matter) stay when people are just yelling at her and constantly interrupting her?
3. The Congresswoman left and people applauded. Clearly they accomplished what they wanted. Spare me the whole ’she should have stayed’ or ’she is a coward’ thing. (BTW – those was suggested post-meeting-interruption talking points in one of the tea emails I received)
Please don’t pretend that you want dialogue if you are going to act like this. Those folks who were talking over her and interrupting her (and even the old dude who yelled that she was a ‘nitwit’) should be ashamed of themselves. She was elected to represent you — but this is an informed democracy, and in order to be heard you need to be respectful and actually let a person answer the questions you ask. You also seem to forget that there were probably other constituents in that room that truly wanted to speak to Kirkpatrick but weren’t allowed to because of the bad behavior of others.
4. (#14) Don’t you see some irony about your comments and how this whole ‘tea party’ thing is being played out? Is this kind of hateful rhetoric (as seen by some of the comments in this forum) and bullying demonstrated by the crowd (and, yes, it was bullying to swarm and yell at a woman like that) the actions of “Christians”? I am sad for anyone who agrees with this.
Chris and the rest of you downplaying the actions of these people and saying you are sad for them. I am proud of them for standing up and being counted. I didnt get a phone call from any source telling me to be heard it is my patriotic duty. Do you know what that means? DUTY!
These people in congress are not listening, they dont care they are going to push it through because it is what they think is best not what the people want. When you have that you do not have freedom.
What I am sickened about is the apathy. This woman has no business being in congess. No intestinal fortitude, no loyalty to the people or her oathe of office. If she believed in what she was saying she would stand and make her point. She is just like any other whining liberal all talk no guts. We need regular people in office again.

A couple weeks ago I was irritated about the August recess. Now I think it’s a good thing. In time it will become clear there are no trains hauling grandmas to death camps. In time the details of the proposed legislation will be made clear. In time the frenzy will be dismantled. If the Dems can get their act together (jury is out), they will explain what has to be fixed and why.
The frenzy is funded and organized by more interests than HMO and Pharma. Make no mistake. This is about money and fat cats preserving their take at the trough. Energy is also involved. The sheep show is entertaining, but the GOP is butchering its relationship with the rest of the farm.
Sometimes I doubt, Roger, that the battle is between good and evil. Maybe it’s between awareness and ignorance, or perhaps intelligence and stupidity.
Then again, maybe it’s how the intelligent and stupid duke it out as good and evil pull the strings.

Dude – please re-read your post. And mine. I’m not “downplaying” the actions of the people who are disrupting the meetings of our elected representatives. Not by a long shot.
You also say that you are sick of “apathy”. Not even a full year ago, more Americans turned out to vote than we have seen in many, many years. This isn’t apathy…the majority of them just happened to vote in a President that you don’t like.
And as for your language ripping apart Ann Kirkpatrick – you need to step back for a moment and listen to yourself. Rep. Kirkpatrick IS a “regular person”; she is a life-long Arizona resident, a mom and was a teacher and small business owner. She also has been very accessible to the people in her district and has continuously posted updates on her website telling people how they can get in touch with her.
I didn’t personally vote for Rep. Kirkpatrick, but I’ll say again that the rhetoric in here is borderline scary. We’re ALL feeling a measure of fear right now about the massive problems that our country is facing, but that doesn’t give us the right to start behaving badly. The crowd behavior at last week’s meetings was unproductive and certainly nothing to be proud of.
LOL, I was always under the impression that our government was the peoples employee not the other way around, but then again I did get my education from the Arizona public school system. I just hope my real employer does not see this video and expect me to pay them for my work.
I have served as a Legislator in the Arizona House of Representatives with Ann Kirkpatrick. My Legislative District was one half of CD1 and she represented the western half at the AZ House of Representatives.I know Ann and she has a big heart and wants to do good things to help people. The people pushing for the Health Care Reform Bill really believe that they are doing something good. They feel that those of us who disagree just do not understand the complexity of the issue. It is complicated and difficult to explain in a sound bite moment. I know that Ann Kirkpatrick does not sit and say,”How do I turn my country into a socialist nation.” She believes that she is helping her Nation. She believes she is helping the people of rural Arizona. Those of us that feel that the cure that is proposed by the current majority is worse than the disease (health care costs bankrupting people and our Nation) need to stay clear and positive in our message, run and work a campaign on that message and if we get a majority to come out to the polls in support of our candidate that represents our view, then that is how our view is heard and represented. Ann Kirkpatrick represents the views of the majority that showed up and voted her into office. She is representing the views of those who elected her, she is listening to them. If you do not like the views of the majority that voted her in, then work to create a bigger majority for the candidate that represents your views. That is the non socialist,American way.
Walking out on the people was not a good thing. As a Legislator, you just cannot do that. She was not threatened, nor was she in physical danger. It does not hurt to listen to people you disagree with. I am shocked that she did not stay and listen and give the people her ear. No matter how upset they are, it would not have hurt to listen. If she would have stayed and allowed each side to speak and everyone to voice their thoughts and feelings then everyone that came would have been treated fairly and equally. This could have been handled in a civil manner. Walking out is not the civil way to work through a difficult situation. Patience,listening,conducting the discussion and meeting with civility would have been the proper leadership approach.
I was shocked that someone did not advise Rep Kirkpatrick that showing up in a vehicle with Palosi California plates was really not a good thing. Someone watching details and her backside, I bet, gets fired.

Ms Kirkpatrick is up for re-election in 2010. It is obvious that she does not represent the constituents she was elected to serve. She is a public servant and represents District 1; that is, she represents our sentiments and opinions, not her openions, not the White House’s opinions and not Pelosi’s opinions. Her constituents are opposed to Obamacare and have made that point quite clear. If Ms. Kirkpatrick does not vote NO to the democrat health care scheme, she will not be re-elected and District 1 constituents will strongly oppose her re-election attempt. Ms. Kirkpatrick you cannot walk away from this.

We had a town hall meeting that she was invited to on Saturday in Prescott. Guess who didn’t show? Guess who didn’t tell us thanks but no thanks or kiss my hiney or anything? Mc Cain was the same and John Kyl too. Don’t trust ‘em if they can’t even talk with us.
