Primary endorsements, update 8-2

Written by Gila on Jul 31st, 2010.

FEDERAL:

U.S. Senate:

J.D. Hayworth – Endorsed. He is not perfect but he is noticeably more conservative than McCain.

John McCain – NO. He has been in Washington 28 years. Do we need to say more.

Jim Deakin – We have nothing against Jim, we are just going with Hayworth proven conservative record.

CD 1:

Rusty Bowers – Endorsed. A solid conservative record and strong character. A great fit with such a rural district.

CD 2:

Trent Franks – Endorsed+. Explanation not needed.

CD 3:

Sam Crump – Endorsed. There are some other good conservatives in the race but Sam has the most consistent record.

CD 5:

David Schweikert – Endorsed. His conservative legislative record is excellent.

CD 7:

Ruth McClung – Endorsed.

CD 8:

Jesse Kelly – Endorsed.

STATE:

Governor:

Jan Brewer – Endorsed. Yes, she pushed through a tax increase, get over it. She is excellent on all other issues and the other contenders suspended their campaigns.

Attorney General:

Tom Horne – Recommended. We won’t even try to make the case that Horne is more conservative than Thomas. He is more competent though. Horne picks his battles and wins them, notably Horne vs. Flores.

Andrew Thomas – Normally our kind of conservative but his witch hunt against judges was the bridge too far. Worse, he did not win any of those high profile battles. His style would not be effective in the AG’s office.

Corporation Commission:

Gary Pierce – Endorsed. Gary is a solid, free market conservative.

Brenda Burns – Endorsed. Good conservative record from the legislature.

Barry Wong – RINO alert. Wong is a big government regulator who wants to drive up the cost of energy by increasing the alternative mandate. His record from his time in the legislature was not good.

Treasurer:

Thayer Verschoor – Endorsed. Great conservative record.

LD 4 House:

Judy Burges – Endorsed+. One of our top 5 favorite conservatives in the legislature. She earns a + by her endorsement.

Jack Harper – Endorsed. Proven conservative.

LD 4 Senate:

Scott Bundgaard – Endorsed. Good record from previous legislative service.

Shawn Kohner – We are going with Bundgaard because of his record and to avoid splitting the conservative vote.

Tony Bouie – RINO alert.

LD 5 House:

Brenda Barton – Endorsed.

Chester Crandell – Endorsed.

LD 5 Senate:

Sylvia Allen – Endorsed. Very solid conservative on all issues.

Bill Konopnicki – NO. Weak on illegal immigration and fiscal issues but  generally OK on social issues.

LD 6 Senate:

Lori Klein – Endorsed.

LD 6 House:

Carl Seel – Endorsed+. This guy is the definition of principled conservative.

David Fitzgerald – Endorsed.

LD 11 Senate:

Rich Davis – Endorsed.

LD 11 House:

Dusti Morris – Endorsed.

Eric West – Endorsed.

LD 12 Senate:

Clark Silver – Endorsed. Solid conservative on the issues.

John Nelson – NO. Moderate voting record.

Eve Nunez – NO. She lost us at “By enabling renewable energy … we can … lower energy demands.” She does not support SB1070.

LD 18 Senate:

Russell Pearce – Endorsed+

LD 23 Senate:

Steve Smith

LD 25

LD 26 Senate:

Al Melvin – Endorsed. No primary challenger but we are still endorsing him.

LD 27 House:

LD 30 Senate:

Frank Antenori – Endorsed. NRA A+, “Friend of the Taxpayer” – Americans for Prosperity.

Marian McClure – NO. “McClure’s record was weak on virtually every core issue” – Russell Pearce.

    Dear Gila Courier,

Other than State Senator Melvin, you’ve ignored the southern Arizona candidates–state and Federal. What gives?

  2. Doc Brown says:

One must ask if the Gila Courier is based north of the Gila or south of the Gila. From this post one must assume they’re north of the Gila.

Excuse me; however, do you really think anyone cares who you’ve endorsed! Wait a minute, I can’t stop laughing!

The Gov. who you believe only made the one mistake is not quite the way it really is as she has a history of raising taxes as she did as a county supervisor which was also temporary and is still intact I do believe and remember she also supports McCain who supports comprehensive immigration reform so where does she stand on that as I haven’t heard her really say what needs to happen to the illegals who are here now and by the way we have 2 billion in the K-12 cash acct. to spend on putting the guard on the border check Carl Seel on that one we had 2.3 until they spent some of the rainy day fund which another senator jack harper said they wouldn’t spend at a meeting in SCG on a Sat. but they have spent 300 million since that meeting so guess that hasn’t worked out to well either . It’s unfortunate that we don’t remember the things she’s done as history usually does repeat itself and we can still vote for Mills as he’s suspended his campaign not canceled or withdrawn his name completely, just what I believe and wish others would look at the whole picture as she hasn’t worked well with the conservatives in the past and don’t believe she will in the future remember if it wasn’t for SB1070 she wouldn’t be in the race as her record as Gov. wasn’t a good one and don’t believe it will get any better. God Bless You All; Van the Radio Man

Well, for starters, you need to end questions with a question mark, but I AM sort of at a loss as to why a guy who was in Washington 12 years is a substantially better choice than one who’s been there for 28.

Buzz Mills did what he did to himself. No one asked him to drop out that I know of. Grant you, Brewer did have some ploys when she voted in SB 1070. However, I would like to know what other Governor would have signed that bill with all the pressure that she or he had on them? When Buzz, Dean & any others dropped out (cannot recall if there were any more)..it was their decision & it told the voters that they were no longer interested in running for Governor. I have to say, I’m not too hapy about the Brewer/McCain connection. However, find me one person in government that has absolutely nothing wrong with them. I don’t think you can do it!!
