McCain Campaign Staffer, District Chairman: “J.D. the A**h***!”

Written by Cameron on Feb 27th, 2010.

So writes LD20 Chairman and McCain campaign staff member, Anthony Miller.  His angry Facebook posts began shortly after J.D. Hayworth delivered his debate challenge to the McCain campaign headquarters.

Starting with “J.D. THE FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Miller quickly ramped up to the foul-mouthed rant, calling the former Congressman an “a**hole”, except Mr. Miller didn’t use the asterisks, he went ahead and spelled it all out.  By day’s end Miller was writing his own Facebook posts about “J.D. HATEWORTH”.

Hopefully someone in the Hayworth campaign and the Arizona GOP is keeping an eye on Miller , because he has been playing the role of the McCain campaign’s spy, shadowing Hayworth at his various speaking engagements.  Whether or not he can be trusted to be in close proximity to Hayworth is a decision for them to make.  At this point in time we would recommend against it.

I don’t think its always fair to hold a campaign responsible for things that their volunteers do. After all, you can’t choose your volunteers and you can’t control them. But if this man is on the campaign’s staff? What a terrible thing that would be. No excuses at that point. And worse if he is also a district chairman. They have the responsibility for helping us to put things back together after primaries so that we can beat the Democrats in November. He can hardly be counted on to do his job if JD wins the primary.

  2. West Valley GOP says:

Same guy who made a scene at our county convention. Seems very combustible to me. So let’s see – Angry, combustible, holds a grudge, views differing political opinions (esp those that are more conservative) as hostile and their holders as enemies. Oh yeah, this guy is McCain material for sure. No wonder they hired him.

  3. O'Reilly sez says:

This race is clearly a battle of Pinheads vs Patriots. Go JD! Or as the McCain guy would say, Go JD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Hard Core says:

He was at the Lake Havasu Lincoln Day dinner last Saturday.

  5. Man from Uncle says:

Don’t like McCain but Mr. Miller has every right to critize Hayworth, in other words, Miller has a right to be wrong.

  6. Stewie says:

That’s right out of the playbook. If they are further to the right then they are extreme, dangerous, or hateful. Ask Randy Graf after he had that number done on him. I agree with West Valley GOP above….who is the “hateful” person here?

  7. No McCain says:

Miller has been harassing and intimidating people on Facebook for months, long before JD got in the race. That is a simple fact.

  8. O'Reilly sez says:

I don’t disagree with anyone’s right to criticize, but campaign staff probably shouldn’t be using that kind of language about fellow Republican opponents. Probably not Democrats either, but definitely not Republicans. And he’s a district chairman too?

  9. Jill Arizona says:

I have had many facebook altercations with Anthony Miller. Sometimes I initiate it and sometimes he does. I also remember a while back when one of my fb friends said Anthony threatened him and he was quite shaken up about it, but I cannot confirm if Anthony was serious or not. But I do know that a recent fb thread got extremely ugly, and another friend of mine was threatened by one of his friends also posting on this thread. This friend of his threatened to smear my friend’s educational career, and then some posts were deleted.

  10. William Wiles says:

I commented on Anthony”s Hateworth post that JD had conservative boundries, Mr. Miller’s response was how do you know. then deleted my post.. If Mc Cain hires staffer’s like this, do we want Mc. Cain back in office?

  11. Ty says:

I agree with Pima Ladies Rock. The actions of the volunteer in no way reflect the campaign’s sentiment.

  12. Jane says:

While it’s pretty distasteful, and I have to agree with those that say it’s the volunteer that should be judged – not the campaign, I can’t blame Anthony for what he said. I mean, what JD did, challenging McCain to debates when he knew McCain was in Washington fighting for the right kind of healthcare reform, was just cowardly.

  13. Finn says:

I’m sure the McCain campaign will handle this in the most appropriate way. It’s unfortunate that people for get that they’re being watched/who the represent. McCain would never stand for something like that – he’s got class.

  14. O'Reilly sez says:

I think the last few comments miss that Anthony Miller is NOT a volunteer. He is a paid staff member of John McCain’s campaign. I assume paid staff members know enough not to publicly comment in any case, but to call your opponent an a**h*** in writing, then Hateworth, etc is a firing offense.

  15. Jill Arizona says:

Ty and PLR – we are not talking about a volunteer here. Anthony Miller is the Republican Chairman of Legislative District 20 and like O’Reilly says, he is also a paid worker for John McCain.
Jane, what’s cowardly about challenging McCain to a debate? Your comment makes no sense to me.
And Finn, I think any class McCain had has been walking right out the door lately. I mean look at his recent attack ads. His Snakes in Guam radio ad was a joke to begin with, and then we find out that McCain voted for it as well, so he pulled the ads, without apology, I might ad. And now his recent t.v. ad is using something J.D. said about the birther movement completely out of context!
Perhaps one of my good friends said it best today:
“Not that McCain EVER had me on his side, but after starring in an anti-gun commercial for AGS, trying to end gun shows, amnesty, working with Ted Kennedy on H-C reform, working with Lieberman on Cap & Trade, anti-free speech McCain/Feingold, his flip-flop on Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell, etc., etc., I would NEVER vote for him and NEVER have! Remember, McCain used to win the nastiest, meanest Senator award year after year.”

  16. LD20-er says:

Make me the third to set Ty and Pima Ladies Rock straight.

Anthony Miller is NOT a volunteer but a paid employee for Friends of John McCain. How do I know? Because I”m a precinct committeeman in LD20, where Mr. Miller is District Chairman.

When he ran for election to District Chairman last November, he mailed a resume of his qualifications and experience, including among them “Friends of John McCain, Chief, Field Operations” on the sheet.

When at the election meeting we asked him clearly and plainly, “Is that a paid position?” Mr. Miller began evading a direct answer with his hostile reply, “Why do you want to know–do you work for the IRS?”

Another PC in the conversation commented, “He works for McCain all right, he’s just as arrogant and treats folks just as snotty as his Boss.”

I advised Mr. Miller that his refusal to answer a direct and pertinent question was in itself an answer–he was a paid employee and didn’t want to admit it. And as any job applicant doesn’t even need to be told, don’t list anything on your resume that you don’t want questioned.

I’ve observed similar behavior from Mr. Miller, although not with the foul language. But I don’t doubt the accuracy of the report at all.

And again, this was in November 2009, long before JD Hayworth entered the race.

O’Reilly seems to be missing the point–Mr. Miller isn’t criticizing, but acting in a manner unbecoming.

Not unbecoming a paid staffer of McCains–he seems to fit right in or the FOJM wouldn’t keep him.

It’s unbecoming a GOP party officer, and this is just the most recent–as evidenced by his behavior at the county meeting where he made unsubstantiated and false accusations publicly in the hearing of 1100+ attending.

Mr. Miller had said he came originally from Chicago, and his behavior as a member of the McGoon squad seems to correlate to the man in the WH from Chicago.

Perhaps that’s what Senator McCain means by “hands across the aisle”–both sides behave like thugs.

  17. LD20-PC says:

I’m sorry but Miller is a HUGE EMBARRASSMENT to this district and has no business in the position of “chair.” His unprofessional conduct as an elected, public representative of our district as well as his PROFANITY has no place in a public forum. And this joker is out there recruiting more PC’s for our district? Is he INSANE?

I move that other LD20 PC’s who are reading this make a motion to begin immediate removal proceedings at the next meeting. There is absolutely NO excuse for his foul mouth Chicago-style thuggery, and we will not tolerate it. Anthony Miller is dangerous and a huge embarrassment to the entire process as he has repeatedly shown and demonstrated. He will RUIN any hope for regaining the former Republican registered voters who went independent in this district. As far as many of us are concerned, he can haul his sorry carcass out of AZ and back to Chicago, and the sooner the better.

  18. George Sprankle says:

As a precinct commitee man (LD-14) Iam well aware of Mr. Miller’s activites…..He is bought and paid for by Mr. McCain….Mr. Millers efforts to disrupt the Arizona Republican are well known….McCain is AFRAID to debate J.D. Hayworth….as he wouldn’t be able to answer some of the questions raised.

I belive I speak for all people mentioned above: We have better things to do with our time than to hack facebook accounts etc.

  20. Stephen Kohut says:

The LD20 PC’s should use this as a lesson on what is wrong with the AZ GOP. After the 8/24 primary the conservative PC’s in LD20 should put a leadership slate together and, when the elections come up later in 2010, send chairman Miller and all the RINO’s like him into retirement. This is a common problem and theme in many areas. We have LD’s and Counties where new PC application seem to vanish into thin air for months, people don’t get training, people don’t get notified of meetings, etc. The RINO’s are well aware of the precinct committeeman project and the conservatives flooding the PC roles. Expect pushback. No entrenched power likes to give up their control without a fight.

  21. Angee says:

This Anthony Miller is a true McCain man, I dare say! He absorbs the hatred from his boss and spews his venom equally as free as McShame. JD’s words for us his volunteers were: “We must remain respectful of Senator McCain” I don’t know how he will do that when old Mc attacks like the dog he is. The only one he wouldn’t attack was Obama. I guess the loan from Soros came with the condition he let Obama win. Remember he was totally broke and Soros came to his rescue while at the same time funding Obama? HUMM very strange for mean spirited McCain to have played the little pussy cat games…purring and all (LOL)

  22. pcp says:

I’m not sure what the big deal is about Anthony Miller being a paid staffer of McCain, unless there is a rule against being a LD chair at the same time. Could somebody explain what rule Miller is breaking?

I’m hearing allegations that Miller had some undesirable behavior but haven’t heard any specifics. I would be interested in hearing what he did besides posting on Facebook or some other internet groups.

LD-20er has a problem that Miller didn’t disclose whether he is getting a paycheck from McCain. Is Miller required to disclose this, and if so when and to whom?

  23. Internet 101:

When dealing with people online one must have a thick skin. There are people
out there on the Internet that believe that since no one can get to them physically they can
behave as they please and there are no consequences for their behavior.
These people are called trolls and their post are referred to as flamebate.

In most cases ignoring these messages is the correct action. With Anthony … ???

  24. Radical American Patriot says:

Perhaps Mr. Miller has no clue about genuine debate is all about. He might be so used to threatening and bullying as legitimate political tactics. He would do well to heed the TRUE first Republican’s advice. Thomas Jefferson stated, “I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend.” JD stated on Saturday that we are NOT to personally attack Senator McCain, simply acknowledge the genuine differences of philosophy JD’s consistent conservativism versus McCain’s ‘pleasant progressivism”, that’s really not so pleasant for those who are enslaved byt the government

  25. 1000 Cuts says:

It’s obvious that John McCain has set up a “Dirty Tricks” department to slime Hayworth, and Miller seems to be the point man for this. It means McCain is running scared, and he doesn’t want people to look too closely at his record vs. Hayworth’s, so the sliming will continue.

  26. Jill Arizona says:

Here is my facebook post from this morning:
Jill Arizona – You’ve gotta be kidding me…. Anthony Miller writes a note about his account being hacked and attaches my name and only 2 others???? Let the smear campaign against me begin. For the record, I did not hack his account. When I have issues with Miller or McCain, I air them publicly and without fear.

And when I provided the link, my friends could not open it, so I copied and pasted – here it is:

    Dear Facebook Friends,
Once again someone has hacked into my Facebook account and has also sent me a virus; I have an idea of who these individuals may be. Is there anyone who can advise me on how to protect my facebook account and how to stop people from stealing my photos from my page and setting up blogs saying things that I have not stated. I was made aware today that an individual has been blogging what he feels I have placed on Facebook and a picture of me on his blog, he did not ask for permission nor did he check with me to see if the statements written had actually come from me. If this sort of behavior continues I will leave Facebook all together. Nevertheless, I have contacted my attorney regarding this matter.

    Thank You,
    Anthony Miller

John McCain rented the American Legion in dontown Phoenix. One of his staff members came out and started calling us names. It seems like McCain’s staff is all suffering from the same disease as their boss. Self-serving and self righteousness. Anthony Miller came outside, he saw me and knows who I am, he was very graceous to me and he actually made the nasty staffer leave the area. Of course that was after the staffer threatened me.

This is a diversionary tactic by Miller. It wastes our valuable time debating nonsense instead of working for a Hayworth victory.

Forget about “Miller the nobody” and go for the real meat…Senator McCain’s battle with JD Hayworth.

  32. James says:

Angee, I’m an unpaid JDH Campaign volunteer as well, and I fully agree with our senatorial candidate that we must remain respectful of the senior senator. This is even if he doesn’t deserve it. It’s called “taking the high ground” and it shows that unlike the Senior Senator and his supporters, we will NOT lower ourselves to such atrocious behavior. We must NOT smear Senator McCain or attack him. With that said, revealing the truth and asking for accountability is neither smear or attack. We need not name-call or insult, either. McCain has given himself more than enough rope to hang himself with, we merely need to take it out of the bag.

McCain’s unbridled, hypocritical attacks are doing our job for us. They are showing the Arizona conservatives that Senator McCain has been in DC too long and with his job severely threatened, he is afraid of losing his job. I sympathize there (I’ve been laid off for 8 months now and I’m only 26), but it’s not like he hasn’t earned the boot.

Our job as supporters of JD is to point out the fact and ask those who care the question, “Who is being consistent and representing us in a fair and right manner? Just look at the candidates and ask, “Who do I want representing our needs, bringing to bear our concerns, and fighting for our rights? McCain or Hayworth?”

Actions speak louder than words, and by taking the high road with JD, we prove to our fellow Republicans, Independents and No-Party-ers (all of whom can validly sign the petition to get JD on the ballot for the Republican primary…. SIGN IT if you support JD or are supportive of him running, just ask a campaign volunteer if you can sign their petition sheet) who the better man for the job is.

The truth is the most powerful weapon in JD’s campaign arsenal, and we his supporters and campaign volunteers should be unafraid to use it in a respectful and fair manner. Treat McCain in this race like we want JD to be treated. Bring some civility (even if it is one-sided) back to the political race.

  33. Ron Schuerer says:

I’m really getting tired of McCains henchmen slandering JD. I was a supporter of McCain until this past year. He’s for illegal immagrant amnesty and is for giving them full rights to social security benefits. That in itself will bankrupt this country if Obama, Reid and Pelosi dont do it first. I think this idiot Miller shouldn’t be allowed anywheres near JD.
    Thanks
    Ron S.
