The left of center faction on OV Town Council, in happier days, April 2008.

Wednesday’s Oro Valley Town Council was rocked by the dramatic resignation of Town Manager David Andrews. He had worked for the town for 18 years and been manager since 2006. The Republican* block on the council voted to accept his resignation, joined by liberal Paula Abbott. Paula hinted at something more with her statement published in the Explorer Newspaper.
During the debate over Andrews’ resignation, Abbott alluded to deeper issues at play.
“If I divulge all the issues it will hurt (Andrews),” Abbott said, suggesting that Andrews’ future employment opportunities could be damaged.
Apparently an anonymous letter was sent to several council members alleging that Andrews and councilwoman Salette Latas were much more than friends. We were not able to confirm the gist of the letter but we do find it interesting that Salette and her husband Jeff filed for divorce on August 13, 2009.
The Explorer reported that Salette was not happy about the move against Andrews.
Councilwoman Salette Latas, who voted against accepting Andrews’ resignation, excoriated fellow council members for speaking with the Explorer about the issue during a break before the final vote.
Three council members and the mayor’s position will be voted on in early 2010. This matter will very likely figure into the election. There may be more to this story and the details could come out during campaign season.
* We are using the term loosely. They are nominal Republicans at best.

I have information but it is third hand that * a former employee sent an anonymous letter to some council members and/or met with Paula Abbott, Al Kunich and Casey Carter. I don’t know what was in the letter but she was bragging at a party she hosted that she told them Mr. Andrews was having affairs with other employees and had numerous improprieties that she was aware of from back when she used to work in HR. She made these boasts in front of other former employees who she thought would be sympathetic with her, but some of us care about oro valley and believe these claims of affairs are complete lies.
I am not willing to put my name on this – I’m sorry I’m not that brave. I wish there were some way to prove slander or libel or something – I don’t know if Mr. Andrews has an attorney who could look into this.
I’m so sorry that I must be anonymous because I think what Carolyn did was wrong and false.
* please cite evidence.
Last I checked Mr. Andrews personal life had nothing to do with the reason he was under fire by the Council. Mr Andrews showed a lack of leadership and compassion for the employees and citizens of the Town. He did not hesitate to put 30 positions on the chopping block when it came to the budget process. He did not show any concern for the employees and families that would have been affected by these lay offs. He was not willing to let Department Heads re-evaluate their budgets in at attempt to avoid the lay offs. He even laughed at a Council meeting where the topic of his large pay raise came up. So perhaps we should look at the real reasons Mr. Andrews is no longer the Town Manager rather than trying to cloud the issue by discrediting other people.
I find it ironic that someone who is afraid to put their name on something they heard third hand is dropping names and talking about getting lawyers. What are your reasons for withholding your name? Adraid of a lawsuit yourself Councilwoman Latas?

My name is Art Segal. I am a senior citizen residing in Oro Valley.
I write a blog letorovalleyexcel.com as mentioned above by “MPW” (who I don’t know, but certainly appreciate his/her comment.)
I feel compelled to comment here for a couple of reasons.
“On my blog, I am identified. This blog appears to be put out anonymously and that is the blogmaster’s right. Is it fair to put out rumor, innuendo and malicious gossip under the guise of “news?”
I don’t think so.
Point #2— “justin case” reeks of OV police union. He has every right to say what he will, but it’s a damn lie. The likes of this anonyomous blogger was one reason our fine, dedicated, outstanding Town Manager David Andrews was forced out by our Mayor Loomis and his “3 stooges.” They have besmirched David’s reputation, and embarrassed our community. And, by the way, other than less than a hand full of disgruntled ex-employees, and the police unions, everyone—and I mean everyone holds David in such high esteem and with total respect..
Point #3. Salette Latas is a good friend of mine, and more important, a good friend of the people of Oro Valley. I can tell. “anonymous” that Ms. Latas has too much dignity to post here anonymously. If she has anything to say, she’ll say it under the name Salette Latas,” and not hide behind some pseudonym, as YOU have chose to do.

Evil unions building ‘Police States”…
Greedy (un)civil servants grabbing giant pay hikes…
Anonymous letters and adultery…
A crazed ‘Grampa Simpson’ screaming venom and spittle at the council,
yearning to be the ‘Big Fish in the Small Pond’…
A sad display indeed.
A sad day for Oro Valley
I laughed at the Grandpa Simpson remark. I can think of no better way to characterize Mr. Segal than by that. One wonders if he is fully functional after his remarks to the council on Wednesday night? His lack of total respect was embarrassing for the citizens of Oro Valley.
As your attorney I advise you to….heck I can’t even finish that, I just had to get a Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas reference into your excellent post.
It’s not partisan eLections not non partisan eRec….oh, never mind.
MPW, Art and Rob:
Have you folks even thought about taking a ride-along with the police officers that you so easily degrade both here and on your LOVE blogs? Perhaps then you might gain some knowledge of what they actually DO to make Oro Valley one of the lowest crime towns in the state, instead of making inaccurate claims. The phone number is (520) 229-4900, just ask for information about doing a ride-along. Now you have no excuses.
Really very nice site!I have you bookmarked your site.
